My baby's first solid food

We have two pediatricians. The one that we usually go to is Dr. Pria at Tropicana Medical Centre (TMC) where I delivered my baby, and the other one is Dr. Kwan whose clinic is just a stone's throw away from our house. They have both given us very good advise and insights of our baby's growth as well as some of the health conditions that my baby faced during his first 6 months (and I shall call him Baby E from now on).

Yesterday was Baby E's 4th jab, and for the past few jabs, he cried very loud. It really broke my heart to see him cry... I know, I know, it's normal for babies to cry when they are given the jab, but I just couldn't help it. It hurt me so much to see him going through the process yet I couldn't do anything to ease the pain.

It was an unusual early bath for him before we brought him to the hospital. This was because we didn't want to bathe him with the cotton wool still intact on his thighs after the jab. When we were at the hospital, Dr. Pria told us that Baby E was ready for solid food. Ahh, another big milestone for him! Surprisingly, he didn't cry as much as he did during the jabs. Big boy already I must say, mummy is so proud of him! =)

We went shopping for baby's solid food after that, coz Dr. Pria said it's best to start off with fruit or vege puree, or rice cereal for him. But never, ever give him anything with gluten at this stage, just in case he's allergic to it.

His first solid food was Cerelac's Rice Cereal. We didn't know what to expect because it was the first time he was feeding from a spoon. He wasn't used to the feeding for the first few times - he would spit out some food at times, but as he got the hang of it, he started charging towards the spoon and sucking on it. What a sight to behold! :)

  1. It’s good that you have two pediatricians for Baby E. In case the other one is on vacation or simply unavailable, you can still have another doctor to assist with your child’s needs. I guess your son is almost one-year-old by now. How is he? He must be in a very healthy condition and could almost stand and sit on his own.

  2. It’s a good idea to have two pediatricians. Having a second opinion on your child’s health and conditions would be good for her. At least you’ll have something to compare with in terms of diagnosis. You can either have two different doctors from two different clinics or different doctors from the same clinic. I believe the latter is more advisable.
